APPEA, in association with AMTAC, presents a crucial seminar addressing the importance of dispute resolution clauses for the Australian oil and gas industry.

As the industry tackles the challenges of delivering projects on time and on budget and delivering oil and gas to both domestic and international customers this seminar, hosted by APPEA Associate Member and ACICA Corporate Member, Ashurst, will deliver two specialist speakers in the field and a key opportunity for you as industry stakeholders to ask key questions of experts and debate issues that are currently experienced in the sector of dispute resolution.

Dispute Resolution Clauses Really Matter – Really?’

Peter McQueen, Chair of AMTAC, will present on the topic of the importance of the dispute resolution clauses in contracts, given that they represent part of the bargain struck between the parties. Given that importance, these clauses must be carefully and clearly drafted and their meaning and effect must be understood. This is particularly so should the parties agree to arbitrate, rather than litigate, disputes which may arise during the performance of a contract.

‘Award or Determine? – What’s the difference and why?’

Mr Paul Roberts, APAC regional lead of Hill International Disputes Group, will give a presentation on the distinction between Expert Determination and Arbitration in relation to tiered dispute resolution clauses. Paul is regularly appointed to provide expert evidence and advice in independent advisory and client supporting roles. Paul’s discussion will also consider the benefits of each process from the perspective of the appointed expert.
